Are you a stamp collector? This first day cover was released on 21 September 1984. It features Strathfield Plaza, which opened in 1981, with the snazzy catchphrase of ‘You want it! We’ve got it!’ The Strathfield-Burwood Philatelic Society’s logo is on the bottom of the envelope. The club was formed in 1978 but was renamed Burwood & District Stamp Club in 2015. The club still meets once a month at Massey Park Golf Club in Concord. The envelope also advertises Ausipex 84, Australia’s first world stamp exhibition which was held in Melbourne from 21 to 29 September 1984. The souvenir Ausipex 84 stamp, costing 30 cents, includes the image of a much earlier one penny stamp from South Australia.
First Day Covers are usually covers franked with a postage stamp or stamps, postmarked and sent through the post on the first day they were officially authorised for use.’ Although clearly in this case the envelope was not posted as no address is present.
Copies of these Strathfield First Day Covers are currently available for sale on ebay at about $5.50.
