Anzac Day 2025

On Friday 25th April 2025, Strathfield Council in partnership with Cumberland RSL Sub-branch held the annual Anzac Day memorial Service in Davey Square Reserve.

A National Day of Remembrance, Anzac Day commemorates the Australian service men and women who have served our country in all conflicts, wars and peacekeeping operations. It's also a time to remember the over 103,000 Australians who sacrificed their lives in our country's name.

The event was well-attended by 400 members of the community who gathered at the memorial in Davey Square for a 10am service with pre-service music performed by the Hills Pipe Band.

Major Matt Jones (Ret'd), President of the Cumberland RSL Sub-branch, opened the event with official introductions and acknowledgments, followed by Cr John-Paul Baladi, who provided the Mayor's Greeting, a copy of which can be found here.(PDF, 122KB) Speeches concluded with Wing Commander Paul Hughes. JP (Ret'd), who gave this year's Anzac Address.

We extend our gratitude to all participants, most notably Trinity Grammer School Army Cadet Unit Catafalque Party, Strathfield Girl's High School for their performance of Always Remember, James Craigie, 2025 Strathfield Young Citizen of the Year, for reciting So Long, Digger and Mr Greg Read, SC, Cumberland RSL Sub-branch Honourary Secretary for delivering The Ode.

After the service, attendees enjoyed a BBQ provided by the Strathfield Rotary Club and the Lions Club of Lugarno.
