Parking

Council Carparks

Strathfield Council operates a number of free car parks throughout the municipality for short term parking in town and neighbourhood centres.  All parking spots are time limited and there is no provision for permanent parking.

Care should be taken to comply with the signs erected in Council’s car parks. Council’s Rangers patrol car parks on a regular basis and in the interests of the community as a whole will issue infringement notices to the owners of vehicles parked contrary to any sign.

Parking Enforcement

Parking and traffic laws apply throughout the Strathfield Municipality to ensure the safe and fair use of roads for everyone’s benefit. Parking restrictions are in place and enforced to improve public safety, to fairly allocate and ration parking spaces and to improve amenity for residents and visitors.

If you have any comments or suggestions for alterations to parking restrictions within the Municipality, please contact Council’s Customer Service Centre on 9748 9999.

Council’s Rangers and Authorised Officers issue infringement notices for street parking offences where breaches of the Australian Road Rules are detected. This includes parking in excess of hours stated on parking restriction signs and parking in areas designated as bus stop, no stopping and disabled driver zones, etc, as well as parking too close to a corner or pedestrian crossing.

Infringement notices are issued under the Self Enforcing Infringement Notice Scheme (SEINS) and the State Debt Recovery Office (SDRO) which is a division of the Office of State Revenue. The SDRO issues the books containing infringement notices and these are strictly controlled by that authority, with records being kept of who the books are issued to and inquiries being made should a book be inactive for a period of time.

Usually infringement notices are placed on the windscreen of the vehicle concerned. However it may be necessary from time to time to mail the notice to the registered owner of the vehicle where it is not practicable for the ranger or parking officer to place the notice on the windscreen.

Offenders have 21 days in which to pay the fine. Fines are not paid to Council but are paid by phone, Internet, in person at Australia Post or by post to: PO Box 4444, Parramatta NSW 2124.  Payment details are printed on the infringement notice.

Alternatively, the offender may elect to contest the infringement notice when the matter is listed for hearing in the Local Court.

Queries regarding a parking fine or an infringement please contact Revenue NSW on 1300 138 118 or write to PO Box 4444, Parramatta NSW 2124.
