Strathfield Council is proud to partner with the not‑for‑profit organisation Planting Seeds to deliver the Classroom to Canopy program. This initiative supports local schools in the Strathfield LGA by educating students about biodiversity, environmental sustainability and the importance of caring for our natural environment.

Council’s Classroom to Canopy program is delivered in two parts:

1. Classroom Incursion (Delivered by Planting Seeds):
Students take part in hands‑on learning experiences designed for both primary and high school levels. The program involves learning and actions focussed on:

Planting Seeds’ program aligns with the NSW School syllabus and has been developed in collaboration with the Department of Education, CSIRO’s Atlas of Living Australia and First Nations organisations.

  • Local biodiversity (including pollinators and pollination)
  • Plants and habitats
  • Urban heat and cooling
  • Citizen science and data collection

2. Student Tree Planting Day (Supported by Strathfield Council):
Students participate in a tree planting event on their school grounds with the aim to:

  • Support local biodiversity
  • Improve school amenity through increase tree canopy
  • Foster a connection with nature and long‑term appreciation for trees

Classroom to Canopy supports our community’s commitment to protecting and enhancing Strathfield’s natural environment. It also contributes to Council’s goal of creating a greener, more sustainable Strathfield for future generations, as outlined in the Strathfield 2040 Community Strategic Plan.
