In order to ensure a fair bin collection service for all residents, Council staff will be counting the bins in the Strathfield LGA. Once your bin is counted, a sticker will be placed on it.
What do you have to do?
Just keep putting your bins out on your usual night and bringing them in the next day.
Staff will count them on the kerb before they are collected. A sticker will be placed on each counted bin on the kerb. If a bin is not out, a sticker will be provided to you to adhere to the bin yourself.
It will take the team a few months to get through the LGA so don’t worry if you don’t get a sticker immediately. We’ll let you know when the Count has been completed and what you can do if you think your bin has been missed.
Background
Council provides 3 standard waste services to all households (not apartments):
The red bin is collected weekly, whilst the green and yellow bins alternate fortnightly.
This standard service is paid for by residents as part of your rates. You can see the charge on your rates notice as 'domestic waste charge.'
Residents with more waste can choose to pay for an additional bin and collection service.
Why Count the Bins?
Strathfield Council is committed to a fair waste service, where residents with additional bins are paying the additional fee. The fees that Council charges for additional services are invested back into the community in the form of other waste services and programs.
What do the Stickers Look Like?
Council is required to provide and charge all residential propertires for a domestic waste management service under the Local Government Act 1993.
Your domestic waste charge is based on the amount Council is charged to process and dispose of domestic waste.
Your domestic waste charge includes:
Anything beyond this, requires an additional fee.
A smaller red bin reminds us all that we need to reduce our waste. Landfills are reaching capacity and we must look at other sustainable methods to dispose of waste. The yellow and green bins divert waste from landfills.
If used correctly, most households will not need a large red bin.
When conducting the Count, Council Staff will have a list of households that are paying for an additional bin. If your household is on that list, your bin will be counted and a sticker will be placed on your bin.
You do not need to do anything further.
If you are not paying for your additional bin, you have 3 options:
Please call Council on 9748 9999 and ask to speak with Waste Services.

If you believe this is a mistake, please call Council.
As there is only ever 2 bins out on the kerb each week, staff will only be able to sticker 2.
They will supply a 3rd sticker that you can adhere to your other bin. The 3rd sticker will be placed on your red bin.
For example, if it is the week where the yellow bin is collected, your red and yellow bin will be on the kerb. Staff will count them, sticker them, and attach a 3rd sticker to your red bin. Please adhere that 3rd sticker to your green bin. Your bins are all now accounted for.
