Sydney Water is continuing work to upgrade the wastewater system along Powells Creek in Strathfield and Homebush. Construction has been progressing in stages across multiple locations in the area.
Current work locations
- Mason Park Wetlands – Work is currently paused, with construction expected to restart in late July or early August 2026. Completion is anticipated in November 2026.
- Pomeroy Street area – Work is ongoing, including excavation and pipe relining. Temporary pedestrian diversions are in place.
- Ismay Reserve – Most areas have been restored, with minor work remaining.
- Ismay Reserve Playground – Construction is underway, with completion expected in August 2026.
- Ismay Reserve South – Major work is underway, including relining beneath Powells Creek. Completion is expected by October 2026.
What to expect
- Temporary footpath changes and fenced work areas.
- Construction equipment and site compounds at active locations.
- Some of our work can be noisy - we’ll have mitigation in place to minimise this as much as possible
- Progressive restoration of affected areas to pre-construction condition as each stage is finished.
Work hours: Work is typically carried out between 7 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday. Saturdays 8 am to 1 pm, if required.
Update on expected project timing
Wet weather and unexpected challenges with the complex work have resulted in delays to the project end date and we apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. We are looking to finish the construction activities by late-2026. Restoration activities will follow and we’ll provide an update on the restoration plans closer to the end of the project.
