The Councillors and staff of Strathfield Council were saddened to hear of the death of former Councillor and Mayor Virginia Judge, earlier this week.

Virginia was born in Cooma, NSW, and worked as both a primary and secondary school teacher in the ACT and NSW. She was elected to Strathfield Council in 1995 and became Mayor in 2000, serving four terms.

In 2003 she was elected to the Legislative Assembly in the seat of Strathfield. During her nine years of service, she worked as a Parliamentary Secretary assisting several Ministers including those for Education and Training, Industrial Relations and Finance. Virginia also held the portfolios of Fair Trading, and Citizenship. She enjoyed playing music, writing poetry, and supporting theatre, dance and film, and no doubt brought this passion for the arts to her appointment of Minister Assisting the Premier on the Arts in September 2008.

Following her political career, Virginia worked at various medical institutions in partnerships and business development roles. She maintained her love of the arts serving on boards including the Riverside Theatre in Parramatta and was a vanguard member of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Dance Company since 2011.

Strathfield Council thanks Virginia for her service and dedication to our community and sends the heartfelt condolences of Councillors and staff to her family and friends.
