What is Bushcare?

Bushcare is an environmental restoration and conservation program that Strathfield Council has been running for over 20 years! The Council collaborates with local residents through the Bushcare program to preserve and maintain our parks, reserves, bushlands, and wetlands. Bushcare focuses on removing weeds and encouraging the regeneration of native plants.

Bushcare is an excellent opportunity for those studying an environmental science or ecology-related degree, as it provides hands-on experience in conservation work. This hands-on involvement not only enhances their understanding of ecological principles but also fosters a deeper connection to the natural environment.

Anyone can join Bushcare! All you need is a water bottle and fully enclosed shoes to get started. It’s a great way to connect with nature, meet like-minded individuals, and make a positive impact on your local environment.

If you’re under 16 years old, please bring a responsible adult to join the fun and ensure everyone’s safety. Together, we can work towards preserving the natural beauty of Strathfield.

Why do Bushcare?

  • Develop your skills in bush regeneration and plant identification.
  • Assist in the conservation of rare and endangered species, like the Green & Golden Bell Frog.
  • Enhance habitats for international migratory birds and create wildlife corridors.
  • Connect with new people who share a common interest.
  • Immerse yourself in nature and enjoy the great outdoors

No experience is needed. We have activities to suit all levels of participation.

The Manual defines the rights and responsibilities of both Council and volunteers, and details the key Council procedures that govern the operation of the Bushcare program.
