Background

The purpose of the Multicultural Advisory Committee is to provide guidance to council on diversity issues and to provide a forum for ongoing engagement and dialogue with culturally and linguistically diverse communities in the Strathfield Local Government Area (LGA).

As per the Terms of Reference, seven community representatives are appointed for a four year term via an Expression of Interest process which is now open until 5pm Friday 28 February 2025.

 

Join the Multicultural Advisory Committee

We are currently inviting Expressions of Interest from community members from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds to be part of the Committee.

The role of the Committee is to:

  • to advise Council on issues affecting multicultural communities in the Strathfield LGA
  • to provide advice to Council on its policies, plans and services that impact our multicultural communities
  • to liaise with other organisations and networks that have a direct interest of multicultural communities including health, social services, police, and relevant government and community organisations
  • to assist Council to promote the benefits of cultural diversity, social cohesion and inclusion for all residents within the Strathfield LGA
  • to provide advice to Council with its communication, engagement and consultation with multicultural communities
  • to provide advice to Council in relation to multicultural events as required

Expressions of Interest

Will be assessed in accordance with the selection criteria outlined below.

  1. Be a resident of the Strathfield Local Government Area or represent a CALD community group/stakeholder group/peak agency
  2. Have a good understanding of Strathfield’s Multicultural issues affecting the local community
  3. Have effective communication skills and demonstrate good problem-solving skills
  4. Be available to attend meetings and demonstrate a willingness to volunteer time to work on initiatives.
  5. Undertake to communicate and engage with the community represented.
  6. Be willing to work within the Terms of Reference.
