Strathfield Council has partnered with Strathfield School for Seniors’ art students for their upcoming Seniors Art Exhibition in the Ironbark Gallery. The exhibition will be officially opened on 13 March 2025, as part of the Council’s wider 2025 NSW Seniors Festival celebrations. In line with the theme for this year by the NSW Government, ‘Time to Shine’, the art exhibition provides the opportunity for local residents in Strathfield to showcase to members of the public their artistic talents that they learnt in their art classes.

The Strathfield School for Seniors, which was established in 1977, is located within the grounds of the Uniting Church, Strathfield and offers classes in history, geography, art, French, German, craft, and music appreciation.

Exhibiting artist and volunteer art tutor Cheryl Beverley said: “We are from diverse cultures that come together at our school, to share our thoughts and experiences about life and art. Our projects are in assorted styles and mediums, which are versatile and not regimented.”

“This makes for an enthusiastic class which generates warmth and happiness in people. Carol Gittoes is one of our students that creates lovely, animated characters from her drawings. This year she has now started her own class tutoring others in paper tole, craft, and decorative pieces.“

These classes provide an opportunity for senior residents aged 50 years and over within the Strathfield and surrounding local areas with similar interests to meet, engage in social activities, and learn.

The official opening is on Thursday 13 March 2025 at 10.30am and will be celebrated with a morning tea and chance to meet the talented local artists.

The exhibition runs from 4 to 30 March 2025 at the Ironbark Gallery located within the Strathfield Council Library & Innovation Hub, 65 – 67 Rochester Street, Homebush.
