At its ordinary meeting on Tuesday 30 September 2025, Council elected Councillor Benjamin Cai as Mayor and Councillor Sandy Reddy as Deputy Mayor for the remainder of this Mayoral term ending in September 2026.
Council acknowledged the contribution of outgoing Mayor, Councillor John-Paul Baladi, who served as Mayor for the past 12 months.
“As is common practice, Council elected its Mayor and Deputy Mayor at its September Council Meeting. Serving as the Mayor of Strathfield these past twelve months has been the greatest privilege and joy of my life. I have worked each and every day to listen and represent the many families, groups, and businesses that make up our beautiful Municipality. I am delighted to see Councillor Benjamin Cai take on the role of Mayor, and look forward to supporting him as a fellow Councillor. Councillor Cai has been an outstanding Deputy during my time as Mayor, and I have full confidence in his commitment to ensure continuity of projects important to our community”, said Councillor Baladi. Councillor Baladi’s final message as Mayor is available here.
Councillor Cai was first elected to Council in December 2021 and is honoured to be able to serve the Strathfield community as Mayor.
“I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and look forward to working alongside my fellow Councillors to ensure that the momentum we have built is sustained. Moving forward, we will continue to work toward the implementation of key priorities set out by Council, ensuring that the community’s needs are met, and that Strathfield remains on a path of sustainable growth and financial stability. As a resident of the area for over 24 years, I look forward to serving my community as Mayor in any capacity I can”, said Councillor Cai.
