This section is dedicated to providing information on business activities in the Strathfield Local Government Area (LGA) and information on Council services and regulation relating to conduct of business in the Strathfield LGA.

Strathfield Local Government Area (LGA) is one of five LGA’s that make up the Inner West sub-region, along with Ashfield, Burwood, Canada Bay, and Leichhardt. It is a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) community that has recently experienced significant population and employment growth. Due to both its central location and pleasant green surrounds, Strathfield is a choice location for residents and businesses alike.

Strategically located on the Parramatta to City corridor, Strathfield LGA is 14km west from Sydney CBD and 13km east of Parramatta City. The well-known Sydney Markets are located at Flemington and the world-class Homebush Olympic Park facility is just five minutes away.

Strathfield benefits from a highly interconnected road network with the Hume Highway, Centenary Drive, Parramatta Road and the M4 Motorway all passing through the LGA.

There are three train stations – Homebush, Flemington and Strathfield Station, with Strathfield being the third most interconnected railway station in Sydney behind Central and Redfern. Bus services from these stations allow businesses to access workers from many parts of Sydney and easy commuting of local residents.

Due to its strategic location, excellent transport infrastructure, and with over half the industrial land in the Inner West, many businesses have chosen Strathfield as a base for their distribution networks. The logistics sector is a key driver of the local economy and will likely be a major source of future economic growth.

Education is closely linked with Strathfield’s identity, with a highly-skilled workforce, highly regarded local schools and a large proportion of residents studying at university. There is also a number of tertiary education providers located within Strathfield, including the Australian Catholic University. If properly utilised, these attributes will contribute to Strathfield being a highly innovative economy well into the future.
