Strathfield Council opens new ramp at Richmond Road

23 April 2015

Strathfield Council has recently installed a new pedestrian ramp on the corner of Richmond Road and The Crescent, Homebush West.

The new ramp provides pedestrians with an easy to use alternative to the stairs that lead down from Richmond Road to the footpath that travels below the Centenary Drive underpass to reach the Homebush West town centre.

Concerns had been identified for the safety of residents who have difficulty using the stairs, including children and families with prams. The ramp provides improved access for residents to quickly and safely access Flemington Station and Homebush West shops and schools.

Construction of the ramp follows on from the installation of lighting and widening of footpaths around the underpass last year to improve safety in the area.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Gulian Vaccari, noted the importance of pedestrian safety in the area.

“Council had identified concerns about safe access to the Homebush West shopping village for residents living on the other side of the railway line, Cr Vaccari said.

“The new ramp, combined with other recent safety enhancement works in Homebush West, will allow residents to enjoy safer access to the Homebush West precinct. Council is proud to provide these facilities for the local community.”

Strathfield Council is hosting a community BBQ to celebrate the opening of the new ramp. All residents are invited to attend. For more information, contact Council’s Community Services on 9748 9999.
