Strathfield Council opens new park at Arnotts Reserve

Strathfield Council recently opened a new park at the former Arnott’s site in Homebush. The land is part of the Powells Creek corridor, which provides significant open space for the local community.

The opening of the park is the first stage of Council’s Powells Creek Master Plan, an ongoing major project that involves remediation works and development of the remainder of the land.

The project commenced in 2014 after Council secured the land following an agreement with the Office of Strategic Lands for the transfer and remediation of the site.

Council fast-tracked the completion of the first section of the park to offer valuable recreation space for the community while the rest of the project is underway. When the project is completed, the park will include playground facilities, basketball courts, cycleway and barbecue areas for residents to enjoy.

The park was officially opened by Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Gulian Vaccari on Saturday.

“Parks are an important part of local neighbourhoods and Council takes pride in being able to provide these facilities to the community. It is fantastic to see the first section of the reserve open to the public,” said Cr Vaccari.

“I hope many local families will enjoy it for many years to come.”
