October 7 – Strathfield Council encourages residents to join the Garage Sale Trail

7 October 2014

Strathfield Council is encouraging residents looking to dispose of household items to participate in the annual Garage Sale Trail event on October 25. Residents who register to hold a garage sale as part of the program will be offered an additional on call clean up to dispose of any items they don’t sell on the day.

Founded five years ago, Garage Sale Trail aims to help people all over Australia to dispose of items that are no longer needed without sending them to landfill.

People who register to hold a garage sale can advertise their sale on the program’s website. Bargain hunters can search for items they want to buy and make a treasure trail to map out the sales they plan to visit on the day.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Gulian Vaccari is encouraging Strathfield residents to get involved.

“Garage Sale Trail is a fantastic initiative with valuable benefits to the environment and the community. Strathfield residents who participate in the event can make a positive contribution to reducing landfill while getting to know people in their local area,” Cr Vaccari said.

“Strathfield Council is committed to providing positive waste management solutions. Garage Sale Trail is a fantastic opportunity for residents looking to have a clean out to dispose of all of their unwanted items. I encourage residents who hold a garage sale to utilise the offer of an additional free on call clean up for any unsold items following the sale.”

Council’s on call clean up service entitles residents to three collections per year. The additional free collection offer for residents who hold a garage sale will be available until 1 December, 2014.
