Mulch Suppliers to Strathfield LGA Parks

For immediate release

16 February 2024

Council is following news reports of the discovery of asbestos in mulch at parks in Sydney.

To date, Strathfield Council has not found asbestos in our parks.

For the last 12-18 months, Council has mainly been using mulch derived from chipping tree pruning collected from trees within the LGA. It is unlikely that this mulch would be contaminated with asbestos.

Council takes the health and safety of our residents and visitors seriously and will continue to monitor the situation and test mulch if required.

Any new information requiring community notification will be posted on the website and included in the eNews and on social media.

Members of the public and businesses who are concerned about contamination in mulch they have received or on sold, should contact the EPA Environment Line on 131 555 or email info@epa.nsw.gov.au.
