March 14 – Celebrate Strathfield’s Diversity on Harmony Day

14 March 2012

Strathfield Council will join the celebrations for Harmony Day on Wednesday 21 March with a fun afternoon of family activities at Airey Park, Homebush form 3.30pm.

Harmony Day is about celebrating cultural diversity, what makes each Australian unique and what we have in common. The day is also the United Nation’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The continuing message for Harmony Day is Everyone Belongs – to reflect on where Australia has come from, recognising the traditional owners of this land and celebrate community participation, inclusiveness and respect.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Paul Barron said Harmony carries an important message for the community of Strathfield.

“Strathfield is a very culturally diverse place, and we are proud of that diversity. Harmony Day is a fitting time to reflect on the contributions this diversity makes to the place we live and to spread the message of acceptance and belonging.”

All are invited to bring the family along to Airey Park, Bates Street, Homebush on Wednesday 21 March from 3.30-5.30pm and join a great afternoon of fun to meet your neighbours and enjoy a free sausage sizzle, facepainting, petting farm, jumping castle, cultural crafts and AFL clinic.
