June 8 – Strathfield SES to get a new home

8 June 2011

A new home for the Strathfield SES has been found, with Strathfield Council announcing that a new, purpose-built headquarters for the volunteer unit will be located at Council’s depot.

Strathfield Council have held regular meetings with SES representatives over recent months, with both parties agreeing to the Weeroona Road site at the rear of the Council depot for the construction of the facility.

In addition to identifying the site, Council has also committed $100,000 to the construction of the headquarters. This is on top of the in-kind contribution from Council to ready the site for the new headquarters.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Tony Maroun said it is great news for the Strathfield community.

“A new facility for the Strathfield SES at Council’s depot is a great win for all parties. The SES is currently using an existing area of the depot, so the relocation will mean no disruption to the SES regular services and training,” he said.

“The SES plays a vital role in the Strathfield community and Council are more than happy to provide a site, funding and in-kind works to ensure the SES has a state of the art headquarters to continue to serve the community in times of need.”

Strathfield SES Local Controller, Darrin Parkin has welcomed the announcement and support from Strathfield Council.

“The Strathfield SES is extremely happy to have found a location for a new facility which will accommodate all our training, facilities and storage needs,” he said.

“We are very grateful to Strathfield Council for working with us to find a site and for their $100,000 contribution and additional site works.

“A brand new facility at this site will be perfect and will give us more training and recruitment opportunities.”
