Strathfield Council will host a seminar for women interested in local government on Wednesday 14 March at Strathfield Town Hall.

The seminar will be an opportunity for women in the local community to better understand the role of councillors and how to become a councillor.

The session will discuss challenges and rewards from the perspective of female councillors and look at the business case for gender equity in local government.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Paul Barron said the session is open to all.

“The information session would be a great starting point for anyone who may be wondering about the role of a councillor and particularly for women who may have concerns about just how to manage a busy lifestyle,” Cr Barron said.

Strathfield’s female councillors Helen McLucas and Hope Brett-Bowen also noted the importance of people coming along if they would like to find out more.

“It is important that women who are interested in local government feel as though they are able to get involved and become an active part of their community. I look forward to talking to women who might be inspired to hear that it is an important and rewarding role,” Cr McLucas said.

“I would like to encourage women in the community to come along and talk to female councillors and ask questions about concerns and work life balance,” Cr Brett-Bowen said.
