Strathfield Council and Strathfield Rotary are calling on the Strathfield community to nominate young people who deserve recognition for their hard work and contribution to the community as part of the 2014 Strathfield Youth Achievement Awards.

Nominations can be made across six categories including arts, community service, environment, business and team and individual sports. The awards are open to young people aged 12-25 who live, attend school, work or train in the Strathfield local government area.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Daniel Bott noted that the Youth Achievement Awards are a great way for young people to feel a part of the community.

“Young people are an essential part of the future of the Strathfield and moving the community forward. By celebrating their achievements, we can further encourage innovative thinking and positive participation in the community.”

“With 15 schools and a university in the Strathfield area, there are fantastic young people active in the community each day. The Youth Achievement Awards are a great opportunity for them to be recognised for the important role they play,” Cr Bott said.

The awards provide a platform for recognition for the exceptional efforts put in by young people in the Strathfield community. Previous recipients have demonstrated outstanding qualities and gone on to greater achievements. Winner of the 2013 Environment, Science and Technology award, May Wong, was named Strathfield Council’s Young Citizen of the Year in 2014.

Teachers, parents, coaches and student leaders are encouraged to nominate young people who meet the awards criteria. Nominations are now open and must be received by Friday 11 April.
