Environment DCP Changes

For immediate release

18 August 2022

On 2 August 2022, Strathfield Council resolved to adopt significant environmental considerations in the existing Development Controls, to truly consider environmentally-conscious development in every application. These changes aspire to promote an even more liveable neighbourhood for current and future generations.

The changes will include, but are not limited to, promoting better landscaping for sediment and erosion control, installation of solar panels on all new builds, assurance that all new builds uphold nationally recognised Building Performance ratings and promote tree and vegetation retention wherever possible.

In 2020, 29.6% of the Carbon Emissions for the Strathfield LGA were emitted from residential buildings, another 35.3% came from Industries.

Over the past 7 years, Strathfield LGA’s residents and industries have been on a steep, but slow, trajectory towards installing more and more solar panel systems on our businesses and houses, however, with these new and improved DCP changes, we aim to speed this process up.

Strathfield Council can become a very hot place in the warmer months, which poses a risk to our health and wellbeing. Council recognises our responsibility to ensure the safety of our residents and it is our top priority, therefore making these changes to encourage longevity of our beautiful area of the world we call home.

Through this DCP revision, we hope to encourage local residents and businesses to make environmentally-conscious decisions in their proposals to Council for development. It’s up to all of us to make sure we maintain the natural beauty of this Council area.
