Council Elects New Deputy Mayor

At its extraordinary meeting on Tuesday 9 May 2023, Council elected Councillor Benjamin Cai as Deputy Mayor for the remainder of this Mayoral term ending in September 2023.

Councillor Cai was nominated for the role of Deputy Mayor after the position was vacated by former Deputy Mayor, Councillor Matthew Blackmore on Tuesday 2 May 2023.

Mayor Karen Pensabene would like to thank Councillor Blackmore for his contribution and congratulate Councillor Cai on his election as Deputy Mayor.

“I am delighted to work alongside Cr Cai in his new role as Deputy Mayor.  Along with our fellow Councillors, we will continue to focus on serving our community and ensure there is stability at Council to support our local community to achieve the targets set by our Community Strategic Plan. We are dedicated to prioritising programs to provide great liveable areas and services which are truly valued by our residents.”

Councillor Cai is honoured to be able to serve the Strathfield community as Deputy Mayor.

“I look forward to working with Mayor Karen Pensabene as Deputy Mayor, to ensure Council’s programs and services continue to focus on the betterment of our residents and local community. As a long-standing resident and operator of a local business in the Strathfield local government area, I am committed to working collaboratively with our community to promote the diversity of local residents and ensure everyone is cared for equally”, said Councillor Cai.
