If you are caught up in Olympic fever, then you’ll love the huge Sports Quarter set to feature at the 2012 Strathfield Spring Festival on Father’s Day September 2.

The Sports Quarter will form a large component of the Strathfield Council annual festival, with NSW sporting organisations teaming up with local clubs to provide fun activities and games for children of all ages at the Spring Festival.

AFL NSW’s Multicultural program will help youngsters try their hand at AFL with a handball and kicking skills clinic plus merchandise and giveaways. Football NSW will allow budding soccer stars to play modified games and receiving coaching tips from Sydney FC stars and Tennis NSW will let everyone try out their Hot Shots game.

As part of the launch of Cricket NSW’s Mosaic Programs, qualified coaches will help kids of any age have a go at playing diamond cricket. Mosaic Programs is a bold new strategy designed to attract and engage children from non-traditional cricket backgrounds. It focuses on the grassroots by providing opportunities for boys and girls from all backgrounds to be involved in Australia’s favourite sport.

For the baseball fans, the Sydney Blue Sox will bring along an inflatable batting cage for participants to practice their swings, plus you can meet the players and get to know the game!

The activities don’t stop there, with an AMF bowling lane and zorb, Father’s Day activities including a fishing clinic from Young Guns Fishing Adventures team to learn all about casting and baiting techniques plus a large model car racing track for the kids and kids at heart to make it a Father’s Day to remember for dad.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Paul Barron said the Sports Quarter is a unique concept for all the community to enjoy.

“Strathfield is an area with a large number of sporting facilities and clubs and the inclusion of the Sports Quarter at the Strathfield Spring Festival is a great new concept that allows the promotion of sport and physical activity to young people in the area,” Cr Barron said.

“The opportunity for everyone who attends the Spring Festival to have a go at soccer, cricket, AFL, tennis, baseball, or even fishing techniques for free is a very unique one and I encourage families to bring the kids and embrace this as a great outdoor Father’s Day activity.”
