August 16 – Big hearted generosity in support of a worthy cause

16 August 2013

Members of the public are being asked to support the 2013 Heart Foundation Big Heart Appeal.

Heart Foundation NSW Chief Executive Kerry Doyle said almost 95% of the Heart Foundation’s work is funded by the generosity of individual Australians.

“Each year, donations from the community help the Heart Foundation to fund a record number of life saving research projects and help us continue our vital health education programs,” Ms Doyle said.

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in NSW and a major cause of disability. It is the number one killer of women, taking three times as many lives as breast cancer.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Gulian Vaccari said that by supporting the Heart Foundation, residents would be helping the local community.

“The work of the Heart Foundation is essential to helping reduce the effects of Heart Disease in Australia and promoting health in the community. I encourage Strathfield residents to make a donation to this important cause when a Heart Foundation volunteer knocks on your door in September,” Cr Vaccari said.

The Heart Foundation’s Big Heart Appeal is being held in NSW from 1 – 30 September and aims to raise over $1.4 million with the help of 30,000 volunteers. Money raised from the appeal will be used to fund research and health projects for the benefit of the people in NSW.
