May 29 – Cooks River Fun Run course now certified

28 May 2012

With less than four weeks to go, the 2012 Cooks River Fun Run course has been officially certified by Running Australia.

A Strathfield Council event, the Cooks River Fun Run is now in its third year and the course certification marks the growth of the event to one which is increasing in popularity on the Sydney running calendar.

Running Australia last week marked out the 5km course for the fun run, which will take place on June 24 from Freshwater Park in Strathfield, to the exact specifications. Course certification allows runners in training for entrance to other events to ensure their race time is valid.

The fun run course takes in the foreshore of the Cooks River along the Bay to Bay cycleway and is a great event for the whole family at just $20 for adults and $15 for children whilst the early bird offer applies.

With over 90 participants already registered for the race, Council is aiming to exceed last year’s 273 entrants.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Paul Barron is encouraging all who enjoying running or walking to get involved.

“The Cooks River Fun Run has become a very successful event and this year should be bigger than ever. Strathfield Council is pleased to host an event which encourages participation in physical activity and healthy lifestyles, and is a nice fit for those in training for the City2Surf and Sydney Running Festival,” Cr Barron said.

“The Cooks River Fun Run really is an event for the whole family and I look forward to seeing many runners and walkers enjoying a Sunday morning along the Cooks River.”

Late registrations will be accepted on race day from 7-8.30am with the 5km race getting started at 9am and the 10km and walk shortly afterward. Presentations will follow the race from 10.15am. A shuttle bus will be available to transport participants and spectators from Strathfield Station to and from Freshwater Park from 7am.
