Site investigation for wastewater infrastructure in Strathfield

Sydney Water are planning to reline a section of the wastewater main which runs along Powells Creek, Strathfield. The wastewater system works behind the scenes to protect the environment and the health of our communities. But work is needed on it from time to time to keep things running reliably.

To do this Sydney Water need to conduct investigation work to help finalise construction plans. Their work will take place at Pomeroy street and along sections of Powells Creek, between Pomeroy Street Homebush to Elva St, Strathfield (See map below), including work on Council owned and managed land at:

  • Ismay Reserve Homebush – Lot 2 DP1002876
  • Ismay Reserve South, North Strathfield – Lot 1, DP814227

Work is planned to start from Monday 11 November 2024 and expected to take up to 6 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

    Site work will include:

  • At Pomeroy Street, pot holing to locate existing underground services. The road will remain open, and traffic control will be in place to direct vehicle and pedestrian access.
  • Service scanning for underground services at multiple sites.
  • Minor vegetation trimming/removal to facilitate access for works
  • Dilapidation survey prior to construction works
  • Non-destructive excavation to expose services in proximity to the planned launch and receival pits for relining the wastewater rising mains
  • Topographical survey works to record these services for detailed design
  • Waste classification of these intended launch and receival pits for a Ute mounted drill rig (3-4m below surface). Adherence to Councils CEMP plans for Ismay Reserve will be followed.
  • Borehole installation (6-8m below surface) and continuous groundwater monitoring
  • Temporary restoration works with full restoration on completion of construction works
  • Traffic and pedestrian control/diversions for the works – no roads will be fully closed during the works; only contraflow and/or diversion of pedestrian/foot traffic.

Working hours are from 7 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. Sydney Water will continue to keep relevant people at Council updated with project roll out.
