Strathfield Massacre Memorial Call Out

For immediate release

16 October 2020

Council is considering updating and relocating the Strathfield Massacre Memorial at Strathfield Square.

The current memorial was established 29 years ago to honour the memory of the victims, the persons present on the day, and the bravery of those who assisted and protected others on the 17 August 1991. The memorial also acknowledges the need for communities to support each other, and affirms Council’s commitment to work towards a more peaceful community.

The memorial currently features a plaque and Robina tree. The suggestion to update or relocate the memorial comes from the desire to make it more prominent and a more worthy tribute to our community members.

Any person closely linked to the incident is strongly encouraged to contact Council and provide their feedback in relation to the Strathfield Massacre Memorial. This feedback is of great importance and will guide Council’s actions moving forward.
