Strathfield Council calling for Citizen of the Year

Strathfield Council is making the annual call for nominations for the 2015 Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards for local citizens who have made outstanding contributions to the community.

The awards are presented each year at the Australia Day celebrations at Strathfield Park.

Nominations are being sought in two categories and all nominees must be Australian citizens and residents of the Strathfield Council area at the time of nomination.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Gulian Vaccari said the awards are a fantastic way of recognising community spirit in Strathfield.

“Strathfield has a great number of hard working community groups and volunteers across a number of fields. This is a great opportunity to recognise the efforts of two very valuable citizens in our community on Australia Day. I encourage residents to nominate any community members who they feel are worthy of recognition,” Cr Vaccari said.

Young Citizen of the Year is open to nominees aged 16 to 25 on January 26, 2015. All other nominees, including those nominated for Young Citizen will then be considered for the Citizen of the Year Award.

Nominees will be judged on a number of criteria, including whether contribution was outstanding, voluntary, beneficial to the community and/or of significant personal effort. A number of other criteria will also apply.

If you know someone who you think has made significant contributions to the Strathfield community and would like to nominate them, please do so using the official nomination form available here, or at Council’s customer service centre.

Nominations close at 5pm Friday 19 December 2014.
