Strathfield locals were out in force on Sunday 4 March for Clean Up Australia Day.

1,300 volunteers collected 20,000 litres of rubbish across 10 sites within Strathfield – enough to fill 170 wheelie bins!

The Hon Scott Farlow MLC joined Mayor Gulian Vaccari, Deputy Mayor Nella Hall and local residents on site at Austin Park. Mayor Vaccari said “I was impressed by the immense feeling of civic pride as the workers took part in the nation’s largest community-based environmental event.”

Litter collected included plastic wrap, take away coffee cups, paint tins, dumped furnishings and more.

Participating schools and community groups included Homebush Boys High School, Marie Bashir Public School, St Patricks College, St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, Santa Sabina Primary School, Australian International Academy, Cooke Park Community, Hwa Tsang Monastery and Hindus Fwayan Sevak.

Strathfield Council provided litter pickers, garbage bags and collection of rubbish.
