30 September 2011

Councillor Paul Barron has been elected Mayor of Strathfield, winning the Mayoral election at the recent Council meeting.

Independent Cr Barron and Labor Councillor Keith Kwon both nominated for Mayor, with Barron receiving four votes to Kwon’s three.

A second ballot was held for the position of Deputy Mayor, with Liberal Councillor Bill Carney taking the majority of votes over Labor Councillor Hope Brett-Bowen.

Cr Paul Barron has served as a councillor for seven years and said he is looking forward to serving the Strathfield community over the next year.

“Representing the community as Mayor is a great privilege and I very much look forward to working with all my fellow councillors, community groups and governments to ensure the needs of the community are met,” Cr Barron said.

“I would like to thank Cr Tony Maroun for his time as Mayor and his work over the past two terms. I would also like to congratulate Cr Bill Carney on his election as Deputy Mayor and look forward to working alongside him this year.

“I am very proud to be a part of the Strathfield community and am eager to be able to lead Strathfield over the next 12 months with dedication and enthusiasm.”

Cr Barron previously served as Mayor of Strathfield in 2008.
