September 15 – Council receives $25,000 grant for a new playground at Henley Reserve, Homebush West

15 September 2014

Strathfield Council has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the NSW government to assist with installing new playground facilities at Henley Park in Homebush West.

The grant funding from the NSW Office of Communities – Sport and Recreation will supplement Council’s contribution of $72,257 to complete the new facilities, which will include equipment to encourage use of upper body strength, and improve balance, flexibility and cardiovascular health.

Council is committed to providing outdoor facilities to support recreational and community activities in the Strathfield local government area.

Henley Reserve is located in an area of increasing growth and has been identified as a location where new playground facilities would meet the needs of residents in the area who have limited recreational space. The new playground will offer an exciting play environment to encourage social interaction and healthy lifestyles in the local community.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Daniel Bott said the project was important for the local community.

“This grant funding will allow Council to offer access to recreational activities for the Homebush West community, which assists with creating an environment that focuses on positive health and wellbeing. The new playground will provide an option for informal physical activity for families living in high density areas, and encourage increased social interaction for children from non-English speaking backgrounds,” Cr Bott said.

“Projects like these bring great benefits to the community and I look forward to seeing the equipment well utilised when it is installed.”

Installation of the new playground will commence in early 2015.
