Renaming Parts of Belfield – Have Your Say

In late 2018 Council undertook consultation with residents regarding renaming parts of Belfield to Strathfield South. The community was overwhelmingly supportive with 81.37% of residents approving the initiative. Council then approached the Geographical Names Board (GNB) to progress the matter further.

After a considerable amount of review by other parties, the application has progressed and the proposal is now on public exhibition by GNB. The community are encouraged to have their say on the proposal, and make a submission before the closing date of Saturday 25 September 2021.

Please see a map of the proposed changes below.

BACKGROUND

Belfield is currently divided by Punchbowl Road, creating two sections of the suburb. The north section is part of Strathfield Local Government Area (LGA) while the south section is part of the City of Canterbury Bankstown LGA. The north section of Belfield adjoins the suburb of Strathfield South. The current boundary between Belfield and Strathfield South runs along Cosgrove Road, Coxs Creek and Cooks River. It is proposed to amend the north section of Belfield.

The Geographical Names Board and Council seek your feedback on the proposed locality boundary amendment.
