Public Exhibition – Draft Affordable Housing Tenancy Policy

At it’s meeting on 7 March 2023, Council resolved to progress the preparation of an Affordable Housing Tenancy Policy (The Policy) to establish a governance framework for the management of affordable housing dwellings which are dedicated to Council. Council is expecting to be dedicated 8 dwellings in the short term, with additional dwellings expected in the future.

The Policy establishes tenancy management criteria, processes and procedures for Community Housing Providers who will be managing Council’s affordable housing dwellings, as well as processes and procedures for Council.

Affordable housing has a vital role to play in developing sustainable and diverse local communities. Providing housing that is affordable and appropriate to the needs of the local community will also ensure a strong and stable labour force and sustain local businesses. Strathfield Council is progressing various measures to address the need for affordable housing in the Local Government Area, including the Affordable Housing Tenancy Policy.

Council invites the community to view and make comment on the draft Policy. The Policy will be available for a period of 28 days. Any submissions made must be submitted during this period and addressed to council@strathfield.nsw.gov.au and attentioned to J Gillies, Senior Planner.
