Proposed change to BASIX requirements for large boarding houses

The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment have proposed amendments to the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulation 2000, which are now on exhibition.

The proposed amendments include changes to the BASIX requirements, specifically to amend the Regulation so a BASIX certificate is not required for:
• a large boarding house
• seniors housing
• a group home
• a hostel
These types of developments are typically class 3 buildings and are already subject to energy and water efficiency requirements under the National Construction Code. These amendments are discussed on page 7 of the EP&A Regulation Overview fact sheet.

Full details of the proposed amendment to the Regulation can be found here.

The proposed 2021 Regulation is on exhibition until 22 September 2021. Your submission will help shape the final 2021 Regulation, which is intended to commence on 1 March 2022.

Make a submission on the Planning Portal.
