October 9 – Enjoy the Tastes of Asia at the Strathfield Food Festival

The Strathfield Food Festival is returning for its fourth year in 2014 as part of the annual Good Food Month. The full day festival will celebrate the culture and culinary specialities of Asia, and launch the 2014 Strathfield Good Food Guide.

The free event will see Strathfield Square filled with the tastes and aromas of Asian Flavours from a variety of food vendors. Live cooking demonstrations will see celebrity chefs sharing their tips and food trail walking tours will take visitors to some of Strathfield’s best eating destinations.

Mayor of Strathfield Gulian Vaccari said he is excited for the return of the Food Festival.

“The Strathfield community is fortunate to have an extensive range of dining options. A visit to the Strathfield Food Festival is a must for anyone looking to experience the cuisines on offer in the area. If you are interested in Asian cooking and flavours, or you would like to try something new, don’t miss this fantastic event. Be sure to bring your appetite!” Cr Vaccari said.

The live kitchen will feature two cooking demonstrations from MasterChef finalist Alvin Quah. Alvin is passionate about Malaysian cuisine, and will focus his demonstrations on continuing his mission make Malaysian cusine as renowned as Chinese and Thai.

Fruit carver, Charlie Yan, will do a live demonstration at 11:40am and The Bug Lady, Butterfly Skye, will show people a variety of ways to use edible bugs in home cooking at 11:10am and 4:15pm.

Food lovers who want to tease their tastebuds with samples from Strathfield’s top restaurants can register for a one hour Taste Food Trail for just $10. The interactive tour will take participants into the heart of Seoul and all its flavours, without leaving Strathfield, and will visit an array of specialty stores where locals will share cooking tips and insights into their culture.

The Strathfield Food Festival will also include the launch of the 2014 edition of the Strathfield Good Food Guide, with complete up to date restaurant listings for the Strathfield area that will never leave you short of a new place to eat.
