Strathfield Council’s annual Food Festival has proven a success with 10,000 attendees enjoying cooking demonstrations and sampling a variety of Asian cuisines from food stalls.

Now in its third year, the event has been an important part of putting Strathfield on the map as a food destination in the Inner West. The full day festival celebrated the culture and culinary specialities of Asia, and launched the 2013 Strathfield Good Food Guide.

Cooking demonstrations were popular with festival guests, with Janelle Bloom from Ready, Steady, Cook and Amina Elshafei from MasterChef sharing some of their favourite recipes. Japenese chef Keita Abe launched the exciting new product Riceballz, a unique take on the Japanese Onigiri snack with a mix of traditional and western flavours.

As part of the festival, walking food trails were an overwhelming success. Over 50 people signed up to explore the hidden secrets of Strathfield’s food precinct, lead by guide Wee Lynn Teo from Feasting in the Know.

Mayor of Strathfield Daniel Bott who joined one of the food trails, said the festival is a great way to celebrate the cultural diversity of the area

The Food Festival is a fantastic way to bring these cuisines to the one location for people to sample the great food experiences Strathfield has to offer.

“I hope the festival encouraged you to sample new tastes and bring your family and friends to Strathfield to enjoy the vast selection of restaurants in the area.”

The Strathfield Food Festival was held as part of the annual Good Food Month.
