October 10 – Enjoy the Tastes of Asia at the Strathfield Food Festival

The Strathfield Food Festival is returning for its third year in 2013 as part of the annual Good Food Month. The full day festival will celebrate the culture and culinary specialities of Asia, and launch the 2013 Strathfield Good Food Guide.

The free event will see Strathfield Square filled with the tastes and aromas of Asian Flavours from food vendors and local restaurants. Live cooking demonstrations will provide tips from celebrity chefs and food trail walking tours will discover local secrets of Strathfield’s eating destinations.

Mayor of Strathfield Daniel Bott said he is excited for the return of the Food Festival.

“Each year, I am impressed by the food on offer and the aromas wafting at the Strathfield Food Festival. If you are interested in Asian cooking, Asian cuisines or you would like to try something new, don’t miss the Strathfield Food Festival. Be sure to bring your appetite!” Cr Bott said.

The live kitchen will feature two cooking demonstrations from television personality and cookbook author Janelle Bloom from Ready, Steady, Cook, at 12pm and 3pm.

Presented by festival sponsors Sydney Markets, Amina Elshafei from MasterChef will share her favourite meals from her unique culinary heritage inspired by her Egyptian father and South Korean mother at 1:45pm.

Japanese chef Keita Abe will introduce RiceBallz, a unique take on the Japanese Onigiri snack with a mix of traditional and western flavours at 1pm.

Food lovers who want to tease their tastebuds with flavours from Strathfield’s top restaurants can register for one of four one hour Food Trails for just $15. The interactive tour samples a variety of cuisines for the perfect way to experience the highlights of Strathfield’s eating district.

The Strathfield Food Festival will also include the launch of the 2013 edition of the Strathfield Good Food Guide, with complete up to date restaurant listings for the Strathfield area that will never leave you short of a new place to eat.
