November 27 – Strathfield Council opens Community Garden at Laker Reserve

Strathfield Council is holding the official opening of the Community Garden at Laker Reserve, Elva Street, Strathfield on Saturday 30 November.

The Community Garden enables community members, especially those without access to gardening space, to be actively involved in growing vegetables, fruit and herbs.

The garden was developed with the input of community members local to the Elva Street area. Residents were involved in the planning and design of the garden, and will have a continued involvement in the project through garden management and growing plants.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Daniel Bott thanked the residents who participated in bringing the project to life.

“Strathfield Council is proud to work in collaboration with residents to provide amenities with a positive benefit to the community. The community members who contributed to the design and development of the garden were invaluable to the success of the project,” said Cr Bott.

“I hope Strathfield residents enjoy this fantastic facility and make the most of the opportunity to grow healthy food, spend time outdoors and be involved in the community.”

Residents can apply for garden membership and plot space at Laker Reserve to grow plants, fruits and vegetables.
