Mason Park Wetlands Work

Thursday, 2nd February, 2017

Strathfield Council recently gained permission from the NSW Department of Fisheries to clear excess mangroves from the rare saltmarsh plant community at Mason Park Wetlands, Homebush. The permit has provided Council staff opportunity to work in areas they normally don’t have access to and see many of the plants and animals close up that use this natural asset. Rare species including the plant Wilsonia backhousei  grow there and migratory waders such as the Bar Tailed Godwit also utilise the wetland. It is hoped the completed works will encourage this and other migratory wader bird species to once again use the wetlands for their annual stopover.
