Strathfield Council has been awarded $25,000 grant funding from the NSW Government for new fitness station equipment including table tennis tables at Airey Park in Homebush.

The grant funding, from NSW Office of Communities – Sport and Recreation will supplement Council funds to construct a fitness circuit around the perimeter of Airey Park, featuring exercise stations and two table tennis tables.

The fitness circuit will provide an opportunity for the entire local community to participate in informal physical activity at the already heavily frequented Airey Park.

The stations will include an air walker and cross trainer to target cardiovascular health; sit up, chest strengthen and pull up for strength exercises and a twister activity for balance. The table tennis tables provide an opportunity for an activity encouraging flexibility and hand eye coordination.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Daniel Bott said the project was identified as a vital one for the local community.

"This grant funding will allow Council to offer access to fitness activities which has a huge impact on overall health and wellbeing of the local community in Homebush and Homebush West. These fitness stations will provide informal physical activity options which is particularly in demand for those families living in high density areas in our community," Cr Bott said.

"Projects like these bring great benefits to the community and I look forward to seeing the equipment well utilised when it is installed later this year."

The project is expected to be complete by June 2015.
