Strathfield’s biggest annual event, the Strathfield Spring Festival is returning on Father’s Day in 2013, Sunday 1 September featuring headline entertainment from The Voice finalist Simon Meli.

Following on from a successful appearance on the hit music show as part of Team Ricky, Simon has commenced an Australian tour with his band The Widowbirds, who will showcase their unique blend of soul and rock on the main stage at the Strathfield Spring Festival.

A Sydney local, Simon is looking forward to being a part of a large community event and sharing his sound with a wide audience.

"I really can't wait for this huge community festival to come around this year! Being from the west and now living in the Inner West, this festival is bridging the geographical gap for me and the band,” he said.

“Coming into spring I think it's the perfect opportunity to not only perform for the community but to also get out there and meet and greet a lot of followers since The Voice journey. Double bonus is that the little people get to come along. Our rock and roll is built for all kinds! It's love, soul, rock and roll and it's a kind of music that will never let you down."

The Spring Festival will also host the Sydney heat of the annual Telstra Road to Discovery music development program, hosted by Ella Hooper (formerly of Killing Heidi). Six local contestants representing the blues and roots, folk and country genres will perform at the festival, along with Telstra Road Alumni and The Voice participant Nick Kingswell.

The Sydney winner will go on to compete for a 12 month music career development package, including a performance at the Americana Music Festival in Nashville, Tennessee.

Telstra Country Wide Area General Manager for Sydney CBD and East, Andrew Bogg encouraged the community to support the performers at the Sydney heat.

“The event is free and a great opportunity to catch live acoustic performances from some of the country’s brightest musical talents,” said Mr Bogg.

Hosted by Strathfield Council, the 2013 Spring Festival will celebrate Father’s Day with something for the whole family. A Sports Quarter will offer cricket, AFL, tennis, baseball and hockey clinics and a dedicated Kidz World will have the children entertained for hours with performers and activities.

The festival also features carnival ride, merchandise stalls, community displays, showbags, food and giveaways.
