May 5 – Cooks River Fun Run returns for its fifth year

5 May 2014

Entries are now open for the Cooks River Fun Run, back for its 5th year on Sunday 22 June. The event starts at Freshwater Park in Strathfield the flat course taking in the Bay to Bay Cycleway with a 5km, 10km event as well as a 5km walk and 2km Kids Run.

With an event for everyone on offer, the run is a great opportunity to test your fitness in the lead up to some of Sydney’s biggest races or enjoy an active morning with family and friends.

Early bird entries are open online until June 6. Register before then to receive the special price of $25 for adults and $20 for children under 18, and just $15 the Kids Run.

The Cooks River Fun Run has grown each year since it commenced in 2010, and Strathfield Council is aiming for record numbers once again in 2014. Growing in popularity with runners, the flat course offers a great opportunity to run a personal best, and the Athletics Australia course certification means this event can be used to qualify for other races.

The fun run is also popular with the local community, with the 2km Kids Run and 5km walk providing options for the whole family. A special family entry price of $80 for two adults and two children under 18 is available until June 6.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Daniel Bott is encouraging residents to put on their running shoes and join in the fun.

“Strathfield Council is pleased to host an event which encourages a healthy and active lifestyle,” Cr Bott said.

“With an option for those who are running competitively and those who are aiming to improve their fitness or just want to spend time outdoors, the Cooks River Fun Run really is an event for everyone. I look forward to seeing many runners and walkers enjoying an active Sunday morning along the Cooks River.”

More updates including the 2014 charity partner and special fifth anniversary celebrations will be announced shortly. For more information or to register, visit www.cooksriverfunrun.com.au.
