May 23 – Library and Information Week comes to Strathfield

23 May 2011

Strathfield Library will launch their parenting collection and participate in the annual National Simultaneous Storytime in Library and Information Week on Wednesday 25 May.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Tony Maroun will officially launch the parenting collection – an innovative compilation of books, dvds and magazines in its own section of the library.

The collection covers a diverse range of issues such as birth, toddler training and teenagers as well as grandparenting, cooking for a family, learning disabilities, eating disorders and children’s parties. The collection was made possible through funding from the State Library of NSW, with Strathfield Council continuing to fund the growth of this popular collection.

Following the launch, Council’s regular pre-school storytime session will participate in the annual National Simultaneous Storytime at 11am by joining over 140,000 other children across Australia in reading this year’s chosen book “Feathers for Phoebe” by Rod Clement.

National Simultaneous Storytime is a fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children’s book that explores age appropriate themes and addresses key learning areas.

Library and Information Week runs from May 23-29 and sees libraries across Australia promote and showcase their varied resources and services to the community.
