May 21 – Council to hold community workshop on Planning White Paper

21 May 2013

Strathfield Council will next week hold a community workshop about the NSW Government’s planning White Paper – A new planning system for NSW to give local residents the chance to voice their views of the proposed changes.

The community workshop, which will be hosted by an independent consultant on Tuesday 28 May will help inform the local community about the changes proposed in the White Paper and provide an opportunity for Council staff and Councillors to hear community views on these proposals.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Gulian Vaccari called on all residents to show an interest in this issue.

“The White Paper proposes major changes to the planning system which has significant implications for both Council and the community’s role in the planning and development process in Strathfield,” Cr Vaccari said.

“It is important that all residents understand that these changes would fundamentally alter the way in which development applications in their neighbourhood would be consulted and approved.

“It is also vital that Council use this as an opportunity to gain the community’s feedback and perspective of the changes, in order to make a submission to the White Paper which is currently on public exhibition. I hope to see a large turnout of residents.”

To view the white paper and to make a submission, visit the Department of Planning and Infrastructure’s website. Submissions close on Friday 28 June.
