March 18 – National Youth Week – Own It

18 March 2011

Calling on the youth of Strathfield to get ready for National Youth Week 2011 – it’s yours – how will you own it?

As Australia’s largest celebration of young people, Youth Week events and activities under the banner of ‘Own It’ will be held nationally from April 1-10.

Strathfield Council will host four Youth Week activities from April 1-10 and is now calling for nominations for the 2011 Youth Achievement Awards.

Youth Week activities will offer something for everyone with a writing workshop, sports clinics, trivia afternoon and karaoke challenge open to people aged 14-24 who live, work, study or train in the Strathfield area. All activities are free and registrations are essential.

Strathfield Council are also calling for nominations for the annual Youth Achievement Awards to recognise the achievements of young people aged 12-25 who live, work, study or train in the Strathfield Municipality.

Nominations are being taken across seven different categories from art, community service, business and sports and all are encouraged to nominate.

Mayor of Strathfield, Tony Maroun noted that Youth Week was a great way for the young people to feel a part of the community.

“Youth Week is a time when young people should feel included and remember they make up and important part of our community. With 16 schools and a university in Strathfield Municipality, young people are a large part of the culture of Strathfield and I invite them all to join in the Youth Week activities and nominate for the Youth Achievement Awards,” he said.
