July 5 – Free your home from chemicals

5 July 2011

Have you wondered how to get rid of cockroaches around the home? How to clean your bathroom effectively without using bleach? If there is an effective chemical-free insect repellent?

Strathfield Council, as part of the Treading Lightly sustainability program, will hold a free workshop on ‘Living with less chemicals’ on Saturday 16 July at High Street Community Library.

The ‘Living with less chemicals’ workshop will explain how to make chemical free and effective cleaning products for your home. Facilitator Teresa Rutherford of Compost Happens will share facts about the health impacts of household chemicals and show participants how to make two chemical-free cleaning products to take home.

Rutherford has a wealth of experience in sustainability, environmental and eco-friendly programs with governments, environmental projects and on television. She set up her own cleaning business using only non-toxic chemicals and is now owns her own business and works full-time as an educator in chemical free living.

Participants are requested to bring a small jar and a paper bag to this workshop so you can transport cleaning products home.

Registrations are essential, book now at www.strathfield.nsw.gov.au or contact Council on 9748 9999 for more information.
