January 29 – Strathfield Council sends best wishes for Chinese New Year

Strathfield Council will join the local community in celebrating the Lunar New Year this week.

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Daniel Bott has expressed his warmest wishes to all cultures celebrating the New Year and welcoming the Year of the Horse this week.

“The New Year is an important event on the lunar calendar, particularly in the Chinese and Korean cultures, and is therefore significant time of year for multicultural communities like Strathfield,” Cr Bott said.

“The Lunar New Year celebrations in Strathfield are a reminder of the rich cultural diversity and friendship present in the community. On behalf of the Council and the community, I would like to spread best wishes for good fortunes in the Year of the Horse.”

Flemington Chamber of Commerce will hold Chinese New Year celebrations in Homebush West on Saturday 1 February from 10am. The celebrations will see fire crackers and a lion dancing display bringing luck and good fortune to all of the businesses along Henley Road and The Crescent, Homebush West.

Chinese New Year is one of the oldest and most important celebrations throughout the Chinese calendar where people celebrate for new hope, wealth, health and fortune for the coming New Year.

Lunar New Year celebrations will also be held by the Korean Chamber of Commerce group in Strathfield Square on Friday 31 January from 11am.
