January 21 – Homebush West to celebrate Chinese Year of the Rabbit

Strathfield Council and the Flemington Chamber of Commerce will hold Chinese New Year celebrations in Homebush West on Friday 4 February.

Chinese New Year is one of the longest, oldest and most important celebrations throughout the Chinese calendar where people celebrate for new hope, wealth, health and fortune for the coming New Year. According to the Chinese calendar, 2011 is the year of the rabbit.

“Chinese New Year is an important celebration to the Chinese people and Strathfield Council are pleased to be supporting this opportunity for the community to observe a spectacular traditional.” Cr Tony Maroun said.

The celebrations will see fire crackers and a lion dancing display bringing luck and good fortune to all of the shops along The Crescent at Homebush West from 10am – 12pm.

The Lion Dancing troupe from Jin Wu Koon – Shaolin Double Dragon Kung Fu Academy will also hold a special performance at Homebush West Public School at 8.45am.

Strathfield Council advise that road closures will be in place from 6.30am-1pm at The Crescent, Homebush West between Hampstead Road and Hornsey Road and at Henley Rd from Exeter Road to The Crescent. For further information on these road closures, please contact Council on 9748 9999.
