February 26 – Clean Up Australia, Clean Up Strathfield

26 February 2013

This Sunday is the day to join the hundreds of thousands of Australians taking to the streets, local parks and beaches for Clean Up Australia Day – Australia’s largest community participation event.

In 2013, Strathfield Council is calling for volunteers to meet at Wentworth Street, Greenacre to clean up along the industrial lined street. All local residents are encouraged to come and lend a hand, then enjoy a free barbecue and the chance to take home the lucky door prize.

Clean Up Australia Chairman Ian Kiernan AO is encouraging everyone to do their bit towards protecting the local environment.

“Everyone can do their bit for Australia, individually or as part of a team. Clean Up Australia Day is a simple way you can clean up, fix up and conserve our greatest resource – Australia.”

Mayor of Strathfield, Cr Gulian Vaccari echoed Mr Kiernan’s comments, calling on the residents of Strathfield and Homebush to get involved in cleaning up around Airey Park.

“Clean Up Australia Day is the perfect opportunity for everyone to come together and help clean up our local parks and streets and think about how we can reduce our impact on the environment,” said Cr Vaccari.

“Strathfield is known as a beautiful area, but it is up to us to keep it that way.”

Anyone and everyone can get involved, simply go to www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au to register as a volunteer or come along to Wentworth Street and Bellfrog Road Greenacre from 8am on March 3 to register your participation in this great event.
