February 25 – Youth Achievement Awards – nominations now open

25 February 2013

Strathfield Council and Strathfield Rotary are calling on the Strathfield community to recognise and nominate young people who deserve to be recognised for their achievements as part of the 2013 Strathfield Youth Achievement Awards.

Each year, Strathfield Council and Strathfield Rotary seek nominations across six categories for the Youth Achievement Awards to recognise the achievements of young people aged 12-25 who live, attend school, study, work or train in the Strathfield local government area.

The awards recognise the outstanding achievements of young locals across a wide range of categories including arts, community service, environment, business and both team and individual sports.

Teachers, parents, coaches and student leaders are encouraged to nominate young people who meet the awards criteria.

Nominations are now open and must be received by Friday 12 April with the Youth Achievement Awards presentation to be held on Wednesday 15 May at Strathfield Golf Club.

Mayor of Strathfield, Gulian Vaccari noted that the Youth Achievement Awards are a great way for young people to feel a part of the community.

“It may be a cliché to say that young people are the future, but it is important to note that the hard work and achievements of young people plays a strong part in creating a community identity and encouraging innovation and advancement.

“With 15 schools and a university in the Strathfield Municipality, the Youth Achievement Awards are a great opportunity for young people to be recognised for the important part they play in the Strathfield community and the future of the area,” Cr Vaccari said.
